When the Sibuet family acquired this precious terroir 19 years ago, they intended to remain faithful to their values, their quality requirements, their respect for nature, guided by their love of wine. Domaine de Marie embodies this attachment to the land and this passion that the Sibuets cultivate. Jean-Louis Sibuet and his son Nicolas have thus worked on the restructuring of the vineyard with the desire, from the start, to gradually eliminate chemical products, to rebalance the soils so that they are healthy. "A common sense viticulture that is based on knowledge of the terroir. The Luberon is one of the rare appellations to be in a natural park, it is then even more obvious for us to be in an environmental approach", adds Arnaud Bressy, the Cellar Master.
Domaine de Marie was born from the encounter of a man and his passion. Jean-Louis Sibuet, the owner, bought the Domaine in 2000 and worked on restructuring the vineyard. "The old noble grape varieties such as Grenache and Syrah were preserved while the less qualitative ones were uprooted and replaced by new ones such as Roussanne, Vermentino, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Little by little, he passed on his love of wine to his son Nicolas who then devoted himself fervently to the family adventure, thus helping to place the Domaine's wines in the registers of excellence," explains Arnaud Bressy, Cellar Master.
It is in the heart of this environment, a few kilometers from the famous village of Gordes, that the 23 hectares of vines of Domaine de Marie, spread across 3 different terroirs, are carefully cultivated.
Microclimates, soil diversity and exposure to the setting sun are natural assets that determine the natural expression of the aromas and characteristics of each grape variety. These grape varieties are to wine what words are to literature. In the Domaine viticole de la Bastide de Marie, white, red and rosé wines are produced from 11 grape varieties.
Each terroir has its own microclimate as well as a different soil structure and exposure.
Since the creation of the Domaine, the philosophy has remained unchanged. Aided by the microclimate and the Mistral, the vines never remain damp. It is therefore logical that nature has always guided the viticultural approaches towards a reasoned culture and increasingly towards an organic approach. Here, nature is respected; the microclimate, the mistral, the sun and the structure of the soil do their work, giving rise to white, red and rosé wines made from eleven varieties of vines.
The Domaine de Marie cellar uses the latest technological innovations:
The grape harvest reception is carried out by gravity. It allows the grapes to arrive gently to preserve their quality. They are then destemmed and crushed.
The winemaking cellar. It is equipped with stainless steel and wooden vats, all temperature-controlled, for perfect control of fermentation temperatures, as well as a new wine storehouse with ovoid concrete vats for the vinification of whites, also under temperature control.
The aging cellar. Ideally located in the basement, against the natural rock, it allows for optimal temperature and humidity. The reds for laying down can then be refined in the best conditions in oak barrels.
